Is Miley Cyrus racist?

By: Vickie J. Rubinson

"Disney tween queen Miley Cyrus is in trouble over a tasteless personal photo, again," said Abbey Simmons in Buddy TV. As if her racy Myspace, cell phone and Vanity Fair photos weren't enough, now a photo of the Hannah Montana star and friends pulling their eyes into a slanted position has been leaked online and Asian-American activists are angry. Rightfully so--the photo is "offensive and racist."

Well, at least Cyris is acting more like a 16-year-old said Tracy Moore in the Nashville Scene, as opposed to the Vanity Fair photos, where she looked "freshly romped." True, she's just a teen, but that doesn't excuse "junvenile stupidity." Still, I don't think this latest photo was "intentionally racist."

It may not have been racist said The Frisky, but it was offensive. Most of us have "crude, off-color moments" that--if captured on film and shown to strangers--might seem racist, homophobic or sexist. But if you're in the public eye, you have to be aware of how you words and actions come across.
