Restaurant Review
I spent Valentine's Day with my family at the ultra-popular "Swiss Chef Restaurant" in Valley Glen, and ladies and gentlemen, I'll put it in four simple words: Best. German. Food. Ever.
Chef Ueli gave us the best seat in the house, with a great view of all the festively dressed customers parading through the front door.
Since I had never tried fondue before, Chef Ueli, much to our surprise, whipped up a special serving of his famous cheese fondue, which was gently bathed in wine and garlic. It was out of this world! We were also served little pieces of bread, which we eagerly stabbed a long fork into and dipped it into the creamy cheese sensation.
We all ordered the Wiener Schnitzel which was succulent and tender and accompanied by the sweetest red cabbage we ever had. The service was excellent. Monika, our waitress and originally from Berlin, was very attentive and friendly, as was the whole wait staff.
The best part of the evening was the musical entertainment, which was provided by Chef Ueli, ( who performed a cute little Swiss cow bell ditty) and a charismatic keyboardist from Austria. We were all impressed by Chef Ueli's voice.
They played my favorite German song, "The Happy Wanderer," to which everyone in the restaurant happily joined in.
It's hard enough to find a Swiss/German restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, let alone an authentic one that actually tastes like it does in Europe. You feel like you really are in Switzerland.
They also have domestic and imported beers and wine.
Family owned and operated, the Swiss Chef Restaurant is home to known master Chef Ueli Huegli who has over 50 years of Swiss/Continental training. I highly recommend coming here, so grab your bread and get your fondue on!
